Chinese Club

Chinese Language and Culture

The program will focus on learning Chinese language: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. A wide variety of different learning approaches will be used in order to meet the needs of children with different learning styles. Some of the different approaches that will be used include textbooks, writing practice sheets, workbooks, pictures, flashcards, CD’s/DVD’s, and the internet. In class children will engage in basic language acquisition practices as well as plays, songs, instrumental music, games, art, and calligraphy.

Teaching Philosophy

The most important issue in education today is balancing intellectual development (IQ) with social/emotional development (EQ). With such a balance, children are able to develop the best insight into themselves and the world, to exercise the best judgment in making decisions, and to act upon knowledge and wisdom in the most effective ways.

One of the best ways to balance a child’s education is to give that child the opportunity to learn both basic types of language—phonetic (such as English) and ideographic (such as Chinese). This process also helps the brain to develop in the most effective way.

Ms. Yulu uses the best teaching practices for promoting positive child development as well as a positive learning environment. Her relationships with children are marked by trust, respect, and mutual interest in the learning process. An individualized approach for each child is utilized, as well as intimate connection and clear communication. It is important for children to feel happy when they are learning and to feel confident in their ability to learn. Ms. Yulu has experience teaching Chinese language (Mandarin), culture, calligraphy, dance, music, art, science, social studies, math, and physical education.
